Giving Back

When a loved one passes away it can be an extremely emotional and difficult time. Many people find it hard to approach the subject of arranging the funeral and it has become in many societies a taboo subject that people try to avoid talking about as they believe it can cause more upset and heart ache.

Unfortunately when someone passes away there is a lot to sort out, this can be especially difficult if their is a limited budget.

Helen decided to set up a Shareagift page dedicated to her friend Sue who had sadly passed away. Sue dedicated her life to helping others, not only did she do an amazing job at this, but much of her time was spent raising money for charities in many different and imaginative ways. Helen described Sue as the most kind, warm hearted lady that she and many others had ever met.

Helen set up the Shareagift page in Sue’s memory and invited some of the people that Sue had touched during her lifetime. This has lead to an overwhelming outpour of messages and donations with everyone wanting to raise as much money as possible to give her the perfect send off she deserves.

The page goal was set at £2,000 and has now gone well over £4,000 with donations still pouring in.

Coping When Co-worker’s Leave The Company

“We all take different paths in life, but no matter where we go, we take a little of each other everywhere.” ― Tim McGraw

Why Does Leaving A Company Cause Panic?

When a co-worker leaves the company it can be a disruptive, upsetting and stressful time for their fellow colleagues. Employees can often take someone leaving the company to heart, especially if they work closely with them or they are in charge of them.

As a company you need to remind your employees that their job isn’t right for everyone, and people can often change career path, move away or move on to a more senior role somewhere else.

Many employees can often get angry or annoyed at one of their co-workers leaving as they may feel like they are being left behind or they may be concerned with the gap in the workforce that their colleague is leaving. In many instances it can be difficult to fill a position, especially if the role requires a lot of training and employees may be concerned that they will have to pick up the extra workload.

Supporting Colleagues Who Are Moving On

If they are leaving for a better position the company should feel proud that they have provided them with the relevant skills and experience for them to have secured themselves a more senior role somewhere else.

Rather than getting annoyed or concerned about a colleague leaving, companies need to support them by providing them with a positive experience from the minute they decide to leave until their last day.

By providing them with a positive experience it will leave them with fond memories of the company and this may result in them recommending it to friends or their new colleagues as a great place to work. It can even result in the employee returning in the future.

Save With Shareagift Towards … A Birthday Surprise

We are always intrigued to find out what fun and exciting things our Shareagifters are raising money for. This week we caught up with Natalie who used Shareagift to raise money for a birthday surprise for Jesse.

What gave you the idea to create a page and start collecting money for Jesse’s gift?

I got the idea because I know Jesse would have enjoyed a big surprise for his birthday such as riding a fast posh car on a track (which he has wanted to do for ages) but that it was too expensive for his friends to pay for alone.

Using the page meant that everyone could chip in for it, I also thought that it would be fun to make it a bit of a competition between two different things, a shed (which he needs) or a fast car (which he wants!). Seems like people want the shed so far!

j

Why did you choose Shareagift?

I chose Shareagift as for my friend’s 40th in January it was used to club together to buy him his dream guitar and seemed to work well.

How helpful has this page been in collecting money together?

It has been helpful in that it’s nice to have a page that everyone can see and that I can show Jesse afterwards.

Untitled

How much of an impact will this money have on Jesse?

It will have a great impact as Jesse has had a hard year, we have a one year old who never sleeps (Oscar) so he deserves something special happening for him, although he will be really embarrassed, he’s quite shy!

jesse

If you were to set up a new Shareagift page what and who would it be for?

I have a couple of close friends who are/have been really poorly and I would set up a page for a charity of their choice.

Does someone close to you have a birthday coming up? If like Natalie you want to surprise them with an amazing gift then head over to Shareagift and start collecting money with friends for an unforgettable birthday present!

Top 5 Madly Insane Spanish Festivals

Save With Shareagift Towards … A Trip To Spain

Spain recently celebrated its La Tomatina festival, which saw thousands of tourists and locals flock to the little town of Bunol to throw tomatoes at each other! If you think that is weird check out our pick of the strangest festivals that Spain throws each year, some of them are just downright disturbing!

5 – Entrodia

Kicking off our top 5 is the Entroida festival, which happens in the town of Laza in northern Spain. This festival sees people flocking to the streets and throwing muddy rags at each other in the attempt to cover each other in mud. A selection of young men then head to the mountains to collect fire ants in sacks and then bring them back to the town where they cover them in vinegar to rile them up and then run round throwing them in people’s faces.

4 – Fiesta De Santa Marta de Ribarteme (Festival of the near death experience)

This festival in northwest Spain sees those who have had near death experiences carried through the town in coffins to the Santa Marta de Ribarteme church. After this the procession heads on to the cemetery, and then to a shrine, where friends of those in coffins will offer financial tokens of gratitude for their loved ones surviving their near death experience.

Coffins being carried

3 – Goat Throwing Festival

Every year in the village of Manganses de la Polvorosa, in honour of Saint Vincent, a goat was carried to the top of the village church tower and thrown into the crowd below who would catch the falling animal with a canvas sheet. The goat would then be paraded through the town and cheered by onlookers. However, due to animal rights groups demanding the end of the festival the goat throwing was banned in 2002. The festival still goes ahead today but a toy goat is used rather than a live one.

2 – El Colacho

Once a year in Castrillo de Murcia the international baby jumping festival takes place. This involves men dressed as the devil jumping over babies that were born over the previous 12 months. The ritual is thought to bless newborn babies and remove any sin preparing them for a life with God. Babies are set in rows of two and up to ten children can be leapt over in one jump!

1 – The Running Of The Bulls

One of the most popular festivals in Spain is the Fiesta San Fermin and the running of the bulls part of the festival sees bulls let loose in the streets where they charge at runners for 825 meters into the bullring. The run usually lasts between 3 and 4 minutes and as long as you are over 18 and sober you are allowed to participate!
