Laborbar

Located on the edge of Strachus square in central Munich, Laborbar is a science lab themed pub with the barmen dressed as scientists in lab coats and many of the drinks being served out of syringes into test tubes. Their shot menu ranges from toxic to radioactive and flammable and on Thursdays and most evenings you can get six shots for a mere 5€! They also hold a weekly beer pong competition every Thursday with first prize being €50 (or 60 shots!).

Laborbar

Fox

This bar is a favourite amongst locals and has an ‘unfinished’ theme to the place. With lightbulbs hanging out the end of tube piping and tables and chairs with sides or legs missing, on first glance it would like like the place is in the middle of a refurbishment. With a great atmosphere and reasonably priced drinks the bar is certainly worth a look if your bored of the mainstream pubs that surround it.

Niederlassung

Niederlassung (or branch) is a great hangout for those of you looking to put your feet up and relax to some indie and alternative music. The bar is an ensemble of odd and old-fashioned furniture, which makes the place look and feel like a weird apartment building that serves drinks! It’s a great place away from the crowds and loud sounds of Munich town, and after you’ve relaxed on one of the sofas it will feel like home in no time.

Dave’s Friends Send Him Off To Frankfurt In Style

We are an inquisitive bunch here at Shareagift and we love discovering what people use Shareagift for. This week we caught up with Joanna, a great Shareagifter, who used Shareagift to collect money online with friends and family for a leaving gift for her friend Dave who is moving all the way to Frankfurt, Germany.

Joanna set an exaggerated goal of £1000 for her page and managed to raise 105% of her target in just 9 days! This has gone towards a brand new keyboard for Dave to take to Germany with him. After such a successful campaign here’s what Joanna had to say about her Shareagift experience.

What gave you the idea to create a page and start collecting money for your friend?

As our friend, Dave, is moving to Frankfurt, Germany we decided that we’d love to get him a big and special present from all those close to him.

Why did you choose Shareagift?

My thought process went something like this: “I wish there was a way to create a donations page, like how you would give to a sponsored run, but for a group present” and then I found Shareagift.

How helpful has this page been in collecting money together?

The page has been crucial in collecting the money. It has made such a difference for people to see what they are giving to and the progress of our target – I am sure that we wouldn’t have raised half as much without this page.

roemer

With the help of Shareagift have you managed to achieve what you set out to do?

We raised four times more than we anticipated with Shareagift!

What sorts of people have contributed to your page?

Friends and family.

If you were to set up a new Shareagift page what and who would it be for?

I would be keen to use Shareagift again for a leaving present or to help celebrate a big birthday for a friend or family member.

Shareagift can help you and your friends, family or colleagues collect money online towards anything and everything, from fundraising for causes to events and group gifts. So what are you waiting for? Head over to our website and start your own campaign today!

Top 5 Outdoor Sports You Must Try This Summer!

The sun is shining; crowds are flocking to Wimbledon for the opening day of the two week Tennis extravaganza and the met office have announced record-breaking temperatures across the UK this week, summer has officially begun! With Wimbledon and the sunny weather in mind we have compiled a list of outdoor sports you must try this summer!

1 – Segway Polo

Segway polo is similar to horse polo except that you ride a Segway rather than playing on horseback. The sport has grown in leaps and bounds, mainly because there is no specific fitness level or age restriction required to play, which means it is accessible to all. The sport is also amazing to watch as you can see in the video below and this year Germany are hosting the official Segway Polo world cup in Cologne from the 16th to the 19th of July.

2 – Quidditch

Quidditch is a sport to come out of the Harry Potter universe and was created in 2005, although it is still quite young it is played across the world and is actively growing. The sport consists of two teams running around on broomsticks. There are essentially two ways to score points; the first is by throwing deflated volleyballs through hoops at either end of the playing field. The other is to catch ‘the snitch’ which is a tennis ball in a sock hanging from the shorts of someone dressed in yellow that runs around the area trying to avoid being caught. Confused? So are we! Have a look at this video for a guide to Quidditch in 2 minutes.

3 – Dragon Boat Racing

Originating in China, dragon boats are human powered watercraft, usually decorated by Chinese patterns with a dragonhead at the front of the boat. Racers usually sit side by side, each with a paddle, with the aim of trying to reach the finish line first. The sport is over 2000 years old however it is only in the past 50 years or so that it has taken off around the world. This year the 12th World Nations Championships will be held in Ontario, Canada.

4 – Underwater Hockey

Underwater Hockey originated in England in 1954 as a means to keep people interested in diving through the winter months. Two teams compete to move a puck across the pool floor into the opposing goals at either end with a device called a pusher. The sport is not particularly spectator friendly seeing as the majority of the sport is played underwater. During championships to encourage more spectators they have screens projecting a live underwater feed of the game. For a more extensive overview of the game take a look at the video.

5 – Roller Derby

Roller Derby is a contact sport, which originated in the United States and is growing in popularity across the world. The sport involves two teams of five members skating in the same direction around a track. In order to score points one person from each team is chosen to be the jammer and they earn points by lapping members of the opposing team whilst their own team members try to block the opposing teams jammer.

If you were interested in any of these sports but don’t have any teams around you, or you have a new sport that you want to get off the ground then you can use Shareagift to raise money, get a team together and start playing! Alternatively if you’re more of a spectator or know someone that would love to watch one of these sports, Shareagift can help you give the gift of an exciting day out or holiday this summer by saving with others towards tickets, travel and spending money.
