Top 5 Most Expensive Hobbies To Have

Its not just ‘all work and no play’ for the rich and famous. Most celebs do pursue the things they love, however, unusual or expensive they may be. Take a look at these expensive hobbies and remain guilt-free if you have one too!

1. Art Collection

Celebrities, businessmen, entrepreneurs and every one with an eight-digit bank balance have voted art collection as the most expensive hobby to pursue, as you also need to enjoy the piece of artwork that you buy. The Triptych is the most expensive artwork to be sold for $142 million to an anonymous bidder. Don’t forget to take a look at Leonardo Di Caprio’s expensive art collection.

2. Collecting Vintage Cars

Jay Leno, Jerry Seinfeld and Ralph Lauren are some of the exclusive members of this club who can afford the 1937 57S Bugatti which costs $4.4 million or the 1954 Mercedes Formula 1 race car which costs $29.6 million. If you are worried about fluctuating savings rates, some of these vintage cars might turn out to be a worthwhile investment!

3. High Stakes Poker

James Bond’s ‘Casino Royale’ is the perfect example of high stakes poker that requires million-dollar buy-ins and payouts. A hobby reserved for the rich, if you don’t have millions in the bank or a few expensive assets, this game isn’t for you. High stakes poker is probably one of the riskiest hobbies to pursue as you might end up losing everything you have.

4. Keeping Exotic Pets

Kristen Stewart and Mike Tyson are some of the popular celebs who prefer to own their private collection of exotic pets instead of having to go to the zoo every time they want to see a lion or a cheetah. The cost of caring for these pets can easily skyrocket to a few millions, excluding the cost of acquiring a license.

5. Flying

Aviation classes cost over $250,000 even in the most basic aviation schools. Celebrities like John Travolta and Tom Cruise pursue such hobbies to later purchase their very own private jets. Taking into account the cost of maintenance, cost of buying and fuelling a plane, some of these hobbies may be more expensive than they seem.

Kasondra Gets A Birthday Weekend To Remember!

Save With Shareagift Towards … A Relaxing Getaway

This week we spoke to Shadia about her Shareagift campaign to send her friend Kasondra on a birthday getaway! Kasondra works a very busy job and only gets one day off a week so for her birthday, Shadia thought it would be a great idea to get all Kasondra’s friends to chip in towards a long weekend away in the coastal town of Monterey, so she could relax and have a few days to herself. Here’s what Shadia had to say about her campaign and Shareagift experience.

800px-South_Monterey_Bay

What gave you the idea to create a Shareagift page and start collecting money for Kasondra?

I used Shareagift a few years ago to help raise funds to bring my mother to Lebanon for the first time. She’s first generation Lebanese but had never been! So when I was thinking of Kasondra’s birthday coming up, and I knew I wasn’t going to be in town to help her celebrate, I thought the best thing would be to crowdfund a mini-vacation, as she works far too much and could do with a break. The Shareagift platform worked great before and so I decided to use it again.

How helpful has this page been in collecting money together?

The page was really instrumental because I could load pictures and links. Being able to share the link via Facebook, Twitter and email was awesome, all the info was right there.

How much of an impact will this money have on your friend?

The gift came at a great time, this is what Kasondra emailed me the other day;

b0f304e0-1657-4da1-973c-51897538dfd8_0

This is one of the sweetest things anyone has every done. And it makes me feel so loved and supported to see this list of people who helped in this wonderful gift. Just as I was starting to feel a little alone in the world, getting this e-mail and seeing a nice list of people who really are there for me was the perfect reminder that I needed, that I am surrounded by an amazing group of wonderful friends.”

She hasn’t gone on the vacation yet but she will in the fall, I’m going to help her plan it and I’m sure some rest and relaxation outside of our busy lives will be just what she needs.

If like Shadia you think that one of your friends could do with a relaxing getaway, a great birthday or thank you gift or simply a surprise to cheer them up, then head over to Shareagift, create a page, invite friends and start raising money!

Save With Shareagift Towards … A Fantasy Football League

Here at Shareagift we love to learn the different ways in which people are using Shareagift.

This week we spoke to two friends, Igor and Joe who currently live in London and support two opposing football teams, Chelsea and Arsenal. They have been playing Premier League Fantasy Football with their friends for a few years now and this season they decided they wanted to create a small pot to make the competition a bit more interesting. They decided that each player should put £10 into the pot and the funds will be shared between the top 3 winners. The challenge they faced was that their friends that wanted to join in were spread all across the world including California, New York, Tokyo and Moscow.

Here is what Igor had to say to us about his Shareagift campaign.

What gave you the idea to create a page and start collecting money for your fantasy league online?

Our friends who wanted to participate in our Fantasy Football League are spread across the world and so we needed to find a means to easily collect cash together.

Why did you chose Shareagift?

We chose Shareagift because it is a very easy and straightforward process to set up and keep on top of. The other reason we chose Shareagift was because it has more features for international groups to collect funds, as opposed to providers who seem to be focused only on their local home markets.

How helpful has this page been in collecting money together?

Very helpful. I love the fact that it allows the person who set the page up to also contribute to the pot.

Did you achieve what you set out to do?

Yes! Shareagift has been an ideal platform for collecting money, and we were able to collect the pot in no time!

Top 5 Madly Insane Spanish Festivals

Save With Shareagift Towards … A Trip To Spain

Spain recently celebrated its La Tomatina festival, which saw thousands of tourists and locals flock to the little town of Bunol to throw tomatoes at each other! If you think that is weird check out our pick of the strangest festivals that Spain throws each year, some of them are just downright disturbing!

5 – Entrodia

Kicking off our top 5 is the Entroida festival, which happens in the town of Laza in northern Spain. This festival sees people flocking to the streets and throwing muddy rags at each other in the attempt to cover each other in mud. A selection of young men then head to the mountains to collect fire ants in sacks and then bring them back to the town where they cover them in vinegar to rile them up and then run round throwing them in people’s faces.

4 – Fiesta De Santa Marta de Ribarteme (Festival of the near death experience)

This festival in northwest Spain sees those who have had near death experiences carried through the town in coffins to the Santa Marta de Ribarteme church. After this the procession heads on to the cemetery, and then to a shrine, where friends of those in coffins will offer financial tokens of gratitude for their loved ones surviving their near death experience.

Coffins being carried

3 – Goat Throwing Festival

Every year in the village of Manganses de la Polvorosa, in honour of Saint Vincent, a goat was carried to the top of the village church tower and thrown into the crowd below who would catch the falling animal with a canvas sheet. The goat would then be paraded through the town and cheered by onlookers. However, due to animal rights groups demanding the end of the festival the goat throwing was banned in 2002. The festival still goes ahead today but a toy goat is used rather than a live one.

2 – El Colacho

Once a year in Castrillo de Murcia the international baby jumping festival takes place. This involves men dressed as the devil jumping over babies that were born over the previous 12 months. The ritual is thought to bless newborn babies and remove any sin preparing them for a life with God. Babies are set in rows of two and up to ten children can be leapt over in one jump!

1 – The Running Of The Bulls

One of the most popular festivals in Spain is the Fiesta San Fermin and the running of the bulls part of the festival sees bulls let loose in the streets where they charge at runners for 825 meters into the bullring. The run usually lasts between 3 and 4 minutes and as long as you are over 18 and sober you are allowed to participate!

If you liked the look of any of these or know someone that would love a trip to Spain, then why not use Shareagift to group fund the perfect trip. Alternatively this may have given you an idea for a fundraising event for a cause that is close to your heart. With Shareagift you can collect money online with others to support those in need. We have also seen Shareagift used to fund local projects and events, why not fund your own event and put your town on the map!

Raising Money For The Victims Of The Nepal Earthquake

Fundraising With Shareagift

This week we spoke to Gaurav and Lana about their campaign to raise money for the people of Nepal following the deadly earthquake that shattered the country in April, killing more than 9,000 people and injuring more than 23,000.

IMG_3267

1 – What gave you the idea to create a page and start collecting money for Nepal?

We were both extremely fortunate to meet the lovely and warm people of Nepal in November 2013 and were overwhelmed with concern and grief when we saw the country completely devastated from the quakes.

Being the people we are, we could not go on enjoying our rather comfortable Western living being fully aware that there are lovely people somewhere who have just lost everything which they need to have a meaningful existence. Hence we have made a conscious decision to forego wedding gifts, and instead use our wedding for raising funds for the victims of the recent deadly Nepal earthquakes.

IMG_2889

2 – Why did you choose Shareagift?

Two reasons – word of mouth and all the positive messages associated with the website from its user community. We really felt comfortable in Shareagift’s ability to make our friends and family feel secure about their donations, as well as the ease of making transactions. The deal clincher were the numerous success stories which we read about on the website itself.

3 – How helpful has this page been in collecting money together?

Well, we have really just begun socialising the website. Our wedding is in November so we hope people will donate generously once we get closer to the date.

IMG_3380

4 – How much of an impact will this money have on the Nepal quake victims?

We think given the monetary exchange rate and the relative higher appreciation of daily essentials in Nepal, this money will make a huge difference to people who are worried how they will put food on the table while trying to rebuild their lives and existence.

IMG_3417

5 – If you were to set up a new Shareagift page what and who would it be for?

We think this is a great platform to raise money for charitable causes and will definitely look to leverage it again more frequently for them. Generally I think the world could do with a lot more karmic thought and action.

Top 5 Weirdest Fundraising Campaigns From Across The World!

Fundraise With Shareagift

We have a lot of people use Shareagift to collect funds online for fundraising events which range from sponsored cycles to skydives. If you are looking for something a bit different to do in order to raise money then check out the following 5 weird and wonderful fundraising campaigns for some inspiration.

Naked Ziplining

Four years ago the ‘Bare in the Air’ campaign was launched in Canada to raise money for Breast Cancer Research. Four years later and the campaign is still going strong! Each year women have taken to the skies in a naked ziplining event which sees them fly across the forest in barely anything! This event has become a tradition in Peachland, Canada with more and more women flocking to the event each year.

Bacon-Fest

This annual event raises money for the Rehabilitation Institute of Kansas City. For the past seven years the bacon-fest has seen people from across America attend this event for all things bacon. There are a number of bacon themed contests which include the best bacon themed t-shirt, who can eat the most bacon and who can cook the best bacon themed recipe!

Condon Couture

This fundraising campaign raises money for the Boulder Valley Women’s Health Centre in America and is a fashion show featuring clothing made entirely of condoms. In it’s third year the show tries to creatively promote awareness of sexual and reproductive health. This year the outfits are Hollywood themed and they are even throwing an exclusive VIP pre and after party. Let’s just hope the dresses stay intact!

Spider Cage

Nick Le Souef decided that he was going to live in a shop window for three weeks with 400 spiders to raise money for a children’s charity in Australia. He was trapped in with redbacks, bird eating spiders, black house spiders and some white tailed spiders to name but a few of the breeds. After spending three weeks in a snake pit and a shark tank he saw this as the next step on his fear factor journey!

Flamingo Fields

To raise money for their youth ministry an American church came up with a great prank to help raise some much needed funds. They managed to get hold of 144 plastic flamingos and went around each night placing them all in a garden of a selected church member. In the morning they would turn up at the house and ask for donations and then move on to the next house. The idea was so popular that when the church had finished pranking its member’s people started making donations to hire the flamingos for the night to decorate their gardens when they were throwing parties or special events!

Helping Shaun After His Business Burnt Down

We are an inquisitive bunch here at Shareagift and we love discovering what people use Shareagift for. This week we caught up with Sammi who is using Shareagift to collect money online for her Dads workshop that was burnt down in the early hours of the 5th of August. This workshop was his livelihood, his job and his hobby, amongst other things the fire destroyed all his cars and tools. With help from friends and family they have managed to clear the debris and are now hoping to raise enough money to help her Dad start over.

Shaun and his garrage

Why did you chose Shareagift?

I chose Shareagift because it sounded the best out of all the fundraising sites I looked at.

The page has been amazing, I can share it around on my Facebook and I can email the link for others to share, its really good!

How much of an impact will this money have on your Dad?

This will help my dad so much! After all, he has lost everything so he needs to find a new workshop to start his business again. Even if it’s enough for his first months rent it’s amazing how much people are pulling together, I’m so thankful for them all!

the-house-shaped-building-tool

What sorts of people have contributed to your page?

It has mostly been friends and friends of friends.

If I was to set up another in the future it would probably be for a charity of some sort, or maybe even a fund for our honeymoon, that would be great!
