Dave’s Friends Send Him Off To Frankfurt In Style

We are an inquisitive bunch here at Shareagift and we love discovering what people use Shareagift for. This week we caught up with Joanna, a great Shareagifter, who used Shareagift to collect money online with friends and family for a leaving gift for her friend Dave who is moving all the way to Frankfurt, Germany.

Joanna set an exaggerated goal of £1000 for her page and managed to raise 105% of her target in just 9 days! This has gone towards a brand new keyboard for Dave to take to Germany with him. After such a successful campaign here’s what Joanna had to say about her Shareagift experience.

What gave you the idea to create a page and start collecting money for your friend?

As our friend, Dave, is moving to Frankfurt, Germany we decided that we’d love to get him a big and special present from all those close to him.

Why did you choose Shareagift?

My thought process went something like this: “I wish there was a way to create a donations page, like how you would give to a sponsored run, but for a group present” and then I found Shareagift.

How helpful has this page been in collecting money together?

The page has been crucial in collecting the money. It has made such a difference for people to see what they are giving to and the progress of our target – I am sure that we wouldn’t have raised half as much without this page.

With the help of Shareagift have you managed to achieve what you set out to do?

We raised four times more than we anticipated with Shareagift!

What sorts of people have contributed to your page?

Friends and family.

If you were to set up a new Shareagift page what and who would it be for?

I would be keen to use Shareagift again for a leaving present or to help celebrate a big birthday for a friend or family member.

Shareagift can help you and your friends, family or colleagues collect money online towards anything and everything, from fundraising for causes to events and group gifts. So what are you waiting for? Head over to our website and start your own campaign today!

Charity And Narcissism

Social media is a great tool for sharing moments with your friends and loved ones and has catapulted international communication to a level never seen before. It has also raised the profile of many worthy causes such as Lou Gehrig’s Disease with the Ice Bucket Challenge which has seen the Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis Association increase the size of its donations from $2.7m to $98.2m within just a year.

But where is the line between genuinely caring about a worthy cause and promoting yourself through social media? Did Michelle Keegan really wear make-up for her #nomakeupselfie? Is the #nomakeupselfie just trivializing breast cancer?

Some people argue that despite all the controversy surrounding online viral fundraising campaigns, the end goal of raising money is still achieved and organisations benefiting from the influx of donations such as ALSA and Cancer Research can go on to do a better job with the cash that they have raised.

However, one of the main worries for non-profit organisations is that interest in these causes is just a flash in the pan and donations will start to falter once again. Post-#nomakeupselfie and #ALSicebucketchallenge, charities are still fighting to survive another day.

So what can we do? Take action. Do something about it. It’s easy to set up a ShareAGift page and invite friends to donate. Take a look at the stories and testimonials from past fundraisers that have proven to be huge successes from Jamey and Willow to name just a few. Here at ShareAGift, we believe that no cause is too small. You can easily collect funds online and share your worthy cause.
