Top 5 Madly Insane Spanish Festivals

Save With Shareagift Towards … A Trip To Spain

Spain recently celebrated its La Tomatina festival, which saw thousands of tourists and locals flock to the little town of Bunol to throw tomatoes at each other! If you think that is weird check out our pick of the strangest festivals that Spain throws each year, some of them are just downright disturbing!

5 – Entrodia

Kicking off our top 5 is the Entroida festival, which happens in the town of Laza in northern Spain. This festival sees people flocking to the streets and throwing muddy rags at each other in the attempt to cover each other in mud. A selection of young men then head to the mountains to collect fire ants in sacks and then bring them back to the town where they cover them in vinegar to rile them up and then run round throwing them in people’s faces.

4 – Fiesta De Santa Marta de Ribarteme (Festival of the near death experience)

This festival in northwest Spain sees those who have had near death experiences carried through the town in coffins to the Santa Marta de Ribarteme church. After this the procession heads on to the cemetery, and then to a shrine, where friends of those in coffins will offer financial tokens of gratitude for their loved ones surviving their near death experience.

Coffins being carried

3 – Goat Throwing Festival

Every year in the village of Manganses de la Polvorosa, in honour of Saint Vincent, a goat was carried to the top of the village church tower and thrown into the crowd below who would catch the falling animal with a canvas sheet. The goat would then be paraded through the town and cheered by onlookers. However, due to animal rights groups demanding the end of the festival the goat throwing was banned in 2002. The festival still goes ahead today but a toy goat is used rather than a live one.

2 – El Colacho

Once a year in Castrillo de Murcia the international baby jumping festival takes place. This involves men dressed as the devil jumping over babies that were born over the previous 12 months. The ritual is thought to bless newborn babies and remove any sin preparing them for a life with God. Babies are set in rows of two and up to ten children can be leapt over in one jump!

1 – The Running Of The Bulls

One of the most popular festivals in Spain is the Fiesta San Fermin and the running of the bulls part of the festival sees bulls let loose in the streets where they charge at runners for 825 meters into the bullring. The run usually lasts between 3 and 4 minutes and as long as you are over 18 and sober you are allowed to participate!

Raising Money For The Victims Of The Nepal Earthquake

Fundraising With Shareagift

This week we spoke to Gaurav and Lana about their campaign to raise money for the people of Nepal following the deadly earthquake that shattered the country in April, killing more than 9,000 people and injuring more than 23,000.

IMG_3267

1 – What gave you the idea to create a page and start collecting money for Nepal?

We were both extremely fortunate to meet the lovely and warm people of Nepal in November 2013 and were overwhelmed with concern and grief when we saw the country completely devastated from the quakes.

Being the people we are, we could not go on enjoying our rather comfortable Western living being fully aware that there are lovely people somewhere who have just lost everything which they need to have a meaningful existence. Hence we have made a conscious decision to forego wedding gifts, and instead use our wedding for raising funds for the victims of the recent deadly Nepal earthquakes.

IMG_2889

2 – Why did you choose Shareagift?

Two reasons – word of mouth and all the positive messages associated with the website from its user community. We really felt comfortable in Shareagift’s ability to make our friends and family feel secure about their donations, as well as the ease of making transactions. The deal clincher were the numerous success stories which we read about on the website itself.

3 – How helpful has this page been in collecting money together?

Well, we have really just begun socialising the website. Our wedding is in November so we hope people will donate generously once we get closer to the date.

IMG_3380

4 – How much of an impact will this money have on the Nepal quake victims?

We think given the monetary exchange rate and the relative higher appreciation of daily essentials in Nepal, this money will make a huge difference to people who are worried how they will put food on the table while trying to rebuild their lives and existence.

IMG_3417

5 – If you were to set up a new Shareagift page what and who would it be for?

We think this is a great platform to raise money for charitable causes and will definitely look to leverage it again more frequently for them. Generally I think the world could do with a lot more karmic thought and action.

For more information and to help Gaurav and Lana raise money for the victims of the Nepal earthquake visit their page.

Top 5 Alternative Experiences

Save With Shareagift Towards … An Alternative Day Out

Many weird and wonderful experiences seem to be popping up across the UK this year, last week saw the world’s first Wavegarden open in North Wales! Whether it is for a birthday, stag do or just a random day out it is time to get planning! We have picked out our top 5 alternative experiences across the UK that you and your friends must try this summer!

Tank Paintball Battles

As you can probably imagine this experience involves you riding around with 2 friends in a tank shooting paintballs at the enemy tank. You are taught how to drive the tank by looking through a periscope and how to load, aim and fire the cannon. This is a great group experience for any paintball fan or for anyone looking to let off some steam on the battlefield!

Flyboarding

This is probably the closest you will come to that hover-board that Back To The Future predicted. With flyboarding you will be strapped onto a board, which shoots jets of high-powered water from nozzles at your feet and on your arms allowing you to glide across the water or shoot upwards of ten metres.

Vampire Hunting

In a secret location in the village of Droitwich, you can become a vampire hunter for the day! You will be kitted out and trained by a group of ex-military experts who will prepare you for your vampire hunt. You will then be split into smaller groups and put through a number of different combat scenarios where you will be required to venture out into the streets for rescue and attack missions.

Zombie Blitz

If Vampires aren’t your thing then how about escaping from a hoard of flesh eating zombies? Located in Waterloo tube station this experience is set in 1940 during the time of the London Blitz. You will venture as a group through a number of tunnels and play out different scenarios with characters that you will have to judge whether they are trustworthy or not. If running from zombies, getting trapped in pitch black rooms and being scared silly is your idea of a great day out then this interactive group experience is right down your alley!

Wavegarden

This lagoon, which opened last week in North Wales, allows surfers to try surfing on a number of different waves based on their experience. The technology behind the wave machines allows for perfect waves to be created from 0.7m to 2m high. This is the perfect training ground for surfers who want to be able to learn the basics or to perfect their technique in a safe and natural environment.

Top 5 Unbelievable Pop-Ups In London

Save With Shareagift Towards … A Great Day Out In London

The competitions between new and up-and-coming businesses is now greater than ever. To differentiate themselves and find the market share that they need, companies need to think of innovative ways to appeal to the public. And pop-ups are just the way to do so. We look at 5 of the most out-there ideas

The Curious Canine Kitchen

dogfood-copy

Whilst most dogs still chomp on their terribly uncool Pedigree tin-canned crap, the cool dogs in town are at the Curious Canine Kitchen feasting on Seaweed, Kale and Reishi mushroom cream.

Dog

It may be debatable how much your lovely canine friend (or any human, even) actually enjoys this ‘superfood menu’ due to their reduced number of taste buds – but don’t let the ‘reasonable’ price tag put you off: £20 for three courses of paw-licking-goodness!

fewd

You’re probably thinking; where do I go for this once in a lifetime experience? Well, save your moustache wax for another occasion; they’ve been and gone! However, you can still donate to their great cause Amazon CARES

Pestaurant

Pestaurant-2

The well-known (to a small niche) pest control company, Rentokil, are more used to poisoning and disposing of masses of tiny critters than frying them up for mass consumption…

mealworm

But with the impending doom of the slow unraveling of the Earth as we know it; maybe we should give the gnarly little insects a try? And you can do! For tasty salt ‘n’ vinegar crickets and Mexican spiced mealworms, just head on to one of their pop-ups happening (bit far out) in Surrey and Edinburgh. It’s free too. You’ve got nothing to lose, apart from maybe your appetite…

Death Row Dinner

death_row_dinners__3040135b

Ever fancy experiencing your last meal on Earth? Well you can with this death row themed pop-up! The menu consists of dishes made up of past last requests and a cheery mugshot of inmate in question.

ower-645x430

This pop-up concept was launched just last year with images of deceased inmates with menus around their necks. If this sounds horrific to you, you’re not alone! It cause absolute uproar on Twitter; with responses branding the idea ‘sick’, ‘twisted’ and ‘disgusting’.

ianzi hotel

The organizers issued apologies and Death Row Dinner was no more.

Cuddle Cafe

download (1)

Imagine a world where money isn’t the only currency, where you can pay for things with love and kindness. Well imagine no more! McVitie’s have launched a cafe where you pay for warm beverages and snacks by a quick cuddle. The cafe, designed by Dr Stuart Farrimond, is meant to encourage oxytocin – the ‘love hormone’, which kills stress levels and makes us feel more relaxed.

mcvities-cuddle-cafe-702x336

Unfortunately, the pop-up only opened for two days in February, so you’ll have to quench your thirst for a quick cuddle elsewhere.

London In The Sky

Alize Cornet, Xperia Hot Shot tennis player, swaps tips with Darius Knight, top British table tennis player, at Sony Ericsson's Tennis in the Sky on a specially constructed court suspended at 150ft over the Thames at Jubilee Gardens Waterloo London today while Pat Cash umpires.

A well-established business, Events In The Sky, have popped up all over the world. With events in Berlin to Paris to London, hanging a large dinner table over the city is their specialty. They have renowned and up and coming chefs cooking for breakfast, lunch and dinner in the sky.

If you’re not terrified at the concept of being dangled by a crane whilst eating your dinner – then they’re open to bookings throughout the month!

At Shareagift we love crazy and unconventional ideas! Fund your outrageous event plans with a gift page! Collect money online from friends for your next dare-devil scheme!

3 – Lake Hillier, Australia

Lake Hillier is a saline lake off the South coast of Western Australia.
