Over the past few years you may have noticed a surge in the number of dessert parlours that have been popping up across towns and cities in the UK. From ice cream sundaes to doughnuts and waffles people are going mad for sweet treats! Many of the desserts that are now available come to the same price as a meal if not more, and with this in mind we set out to try and discover some of the most expensive desserts from across the globe.
5 – The £650 Golden Phoenix Cupcake
In 2012 Bloomsbury’s cupcake store in Dubai unveiled the world’s most expensive cupcake priced at around £650. It is made from the finest chocolate and wrapped in 23 carats of edible gold sheets. The ingredients were sourced from around the world with the flour coming from Dover in the UK, the cocoa from Italy and the vanilla beans from Uganda.
4 – Krispy Kreme’s £1,000 Luxe Doughnut
The department store Selfridges in London partnered up with the American doughnut chain Krisy Kreme to produce the world’s most expensive doughnut. The Luxe Doughnut has a 24 carat gold leaf, gold dusted white chocolate flowers, edible diamonds and Dom Perignon champaign jelly. To put into context just how much this doughnut costs, for the same price you could purchase 2000 glazed doughnuts!
3 – The £9,415 Fortress Stilt Fisherman Indulgence
Created in 2007 at The Fortress, a luxury hotel in Shri Lanka, this desert is a golden leaf Italian cassata with Irish cream and infused with tender fruit. The dessert’s base is formed of mango and pomegranate compote and Dom Perignon champagne. In the centre of the desert sits an aquamarine stone, known as the stone of courage it is thought to bring good luck, happiness and have a positive effect on relationships.
2 – The £22,000 Chocolate Pudding
This is no ordinary chocolate pudding, shaped like a Faberge egg and filled with gold, champaign, caviar and a two carat diamond this is one of the world’s most expensive deserts. The chocolate used to make this desert is a mixture of four types of Belgian chocolate flavoured with a combination of peach, orange and whiskey.
1 – Strawberries Arnaud for £2.5 million!
The world’s most expensive dessert lives in the town of New Orleans in the USA. The desert consists of strawberries, port, red wine, spices, citrus and vanilla ice cream with a 7.09 carat pink diamond engagement ring, which accompanies the dish and is soaked in £1600 worth of wine. Unsurprisingly it is the least popular dessert on the restaurants menu!
